Granny squares are a timeless favourite in crochet, but this pattern gives them a fresh, modern twist! Instead of uniform squares, this top features a mix of two different-sized granny squares, creating an eye-catching, dynamic design. The blend of sizes adds texture and movement, making it a unique and stylish addition to any wardrobe.
Perfect for crocheters who love to play with shapes and structure, this pattern will guide you through assembling the squares into a trendy, wearable piece. Grab your yarn and hook—let’s create something beautiful!

I’m making this pattern in two sizes: a small, cropped version and a slightly larger option, achieved by increasing the hook size and adding extra rows for length. This design also allows for creative flexibility, allowing you to arrange the granny squares in various ways to make a truly unique piece.
The pattern below is for the small and cropped version for your reference. Simply adjust and play around with the squares to get your own unique piece. Let start!

Joining Square Diagram

Zig-Zag Stitch Joining Method
You may use your preferred joining method but keep in mind it may be affected the final finished sizes.

Arrange all the squares as per the join square diagram above. I start with all the vertical lines (bottom to top), then finished up with all the horizontal lines (right to left). But this doesn’t really matter. Follow your own way. It is just a simple slst stiches along the line of the squares edges right, left, right left, repeat till the last st of the line.
Insert hook from the front to back of square of the beginning st (corner space) pull thru the yarn and slst. Continue the next slst on the other square to be join. Repeat the same until the last st of the line, cut off yarn and fasten off.
Neckline, Both Sleeves & Bottom Edge Stitch

ROW 1 :
Start from any of the point or st, I usually start from 1 or 2 sts away from the adge or corner of the edge. Red dot of chart above for reference.
SLST, SC all round the edge, finished row 1 with SLST to the 1st SC of the row.
note: when come to the corner of the neckline and sleeves, make 2sctog at the squares corner space.
ROW 2 :
*CH1, SLST to the next st,* repeat * all round the edge. Cut of yarn, with tapestry needle, invisible join to the 1st SLST.
Repeat the same 2 rows instruction at neckline, sleeves & bottom edges. Weave in all the yarn ends, and your GRANNY SQUARE TANK TOP is DONE!
