Place main colour ear on top of second colour ear, SC all round and leaving long tail to attached ears to the beanie. Here I sew them at the 3rd row of the beanie.
Fore Lock/Mane
Cut yarn about 12 inch long for back mane, and 6 inch long for front and top mane. Simply create the mane until you happy with the outcome. Please beware, too much of the mane will result putting weight to the beanie. Off course we don’t want to give baby heavy clothing.
Braided Earlaps Tails
Lastly, cut yarn about 1 meter long; 3 strands of each colour. You will have 9 strands for each side. Place it at the end of earlaps with the knot, braid, knot and trim.

Second ear lap start with leaving 16 sts infront of the beanie. DHC = HDC, sorry mistake.
I have a couple of questions, where do you start the second ear flap and also the first round of the flap quotes "DHC", what is that?
Joey, thanks for picking up this pattern for this meaningful gift. Hope that the beanie will give her strength to fight with the cancer. Blessing her.
thank you for the cute pattern – I make chemo hats and I think the ladies will think it is fun
